Gym Case
So you're overweight and you think it might be a good idea to join a gym to kick-start your weight-loss programme. Well think again! Did you know that gyms only manage to stay in business because of the amount of people who pay a joining fee and enter into a 12 month contract but then never actually go to the gym. Think about it, if everyone who joined up actually attended, all the aerobic machines and weight rooms would be fully occupied all the time. If you actually visit a gym though and have a look round you'll find out that this is never the case.
Gym membership databases are full of people who have joined with the best of intentions but have stopped attending within the first month. Why? Because when people first sign up they are really motivated to work out and lose weight but they are at that point unaware of how much hard work is required of them. After joining they have an assessment and are given a programme to follow which usually consists of some cardio vascular exercises such as jogging on a treadmill, rowing and cycling. In addition they are told to do resistance training with free weights or weight machines. When they completed their programme a couple of times they begin to realise just how strenuous it is. In addition, when people join up, they expect to see results very quickly, but of course it doesn't happen this way. So after a couple of weeks hard work in the gym with no results they start to get disillusioned and stop attending.
The result of all this is that they have forked out a small fortune on something they are not going to use and locked themselves into a contract they cannot get out of for 12 months. This of course leaves them feeling very despondent with the whole idea of losing weight and they simply give up all together. So if joining a gym isn't the answer, what is?
Simple really! I would suggest making some simple lifestyle changes, small ones to begin with and take things slowly. Try to go for a brisk walk everyday, even if it's only for 30 minutes. Choose a pleasant route if possible to make it more enjoyable. Remember the key to successful exercise is to enjoy it. If you don't enjoy it you'll simply give up, so start small and build up gradually. Make some small changes to your diet as well. I'm not talking about starving yourself, I'm simply suggesting that you try to eat sensible portions of healthy foods and try to cut out fatty foods and those laced with sugars.
By making small changes such as these you won't be putting yourself through hell and therefore you will be more likely to stick at it. Don't expect drastic results. Small changes will bring small results but that's what you're aiming for because by doing it this way you're more likely to be successful in losing the weight and keeping it off.
